Silca launches Protocol road and gravel tire range
Silca has launched its Protocol tire range, a new collection of road and gravel tires designed for modern racing demands. The lineup includes widths ranging from 29mm for road use to 55mm for gravel, featuring four distinct tread patterns.
Unlike traditional gravel tires that often scale up road tire carcasses, the Protocol range utilizes an inverse proportional design inspired by cross-country mountain bike tires. This approach pairs larger air volumes with thin, high-density 120 TPI casings to optimize performance at lower inflation pressures. Key technical features include the proprietary Pulsar rubber compound, asymmetrical tread designs for improved braking and acceleration, and a carbon fiber bead system intended to reduce stretching and moisture absorption compared to traditional Kevlar beads.
The launch also marks the first tire sponsorship for professional gravel rider Dylan Johnson, who collaborated with the brand on the development of the platform.
