Silent Hill: Townfall faces player backlash over difficulty update

Silent Hill: Townfall, a spin-off developed by Screen Burn in partnership with Konami, has sparked debate among players following the release of update 1.4.0 on October 8. The patch adjusted game difficulty by weakening the enemy 'The Weight'—removing its ability to kill the protagonist in a single strike—and easing a difficult puzzle. While some players praised the change for improving game pacing, others criticized the move as diluting the survival horror experience.

Set in 1996 on the Scottish island of St. Amelia, the game follows protagonist Simon Ordell. The title features five distinct endings, two of which are secret. Unlike many games, endings are not determined by dialogue choices but by player behavior, including exploration levels and combat aggression. The three primary endings—Justice, Forever, and Abandoned—are based on the ratio of enemies killed to items discovered, while the secret 'Dog' and 'Sci-fi' endings require a New Game Plus playthrough.
