Silent Tactic wins the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby
Silent Tactic won the 38th running of the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park on Sunday night. Ridden by José Ortiz and trained by Mark Casse, the three-year-old colt secured the victory by a neck over Zihnal, who was ridden by John Velázquez.
Silent Tactic, who had previously finished no worse than third in his career, rallied from seventh position. After finding a seam on the turn, the horse took command at the quarter pole and maintained a narrow lead through the stretch to finish with a time of 1:50.31 for the 1 1/8 miles.
The race was marked by a mishap at the start when Pavlovian stumbled badly, causing rider David Cabrera to be unseated. Both the horse and rider were reported to be okay. Following an inquiry, stewards ruled that Pavlovian caused his own trouble and allowed the results to stand.
