Poland reports surge in traffic fatalities, drunk driving, and labor violations
Polish law enforcement agencies have reported a significant surge in traffic violations and criminal activities involving vehicles across various regions. In the Silesian Voivodeship, authorities described a “black September” on the roads, noting 40 accidents in just seven days that resulted in 8 deaths and 44 injuries.
Driving under the influence remains a critical issue. Reports include a driver in Knurowe caught with nearly 4 per mille of alcohol, a motorcyclist in Kłodzko exceeding speed limits by 82 km/h while under recidivism penalties, and a driver in Działdowo caught with 2.5 per mille. In Katowice, a 36-year-old driver was arrested for operating a blood transport vehicle despite having four court-ordered driving bans, including a lifetime ban.
Beyond traffic, the Border Guard has identified widespread document fraud and labor violations. In the Bieszczady region, over 400 forged documents, including driving licenses, were detected. In the Opole and Warmia-Masuria regions, inspections revealed hundreds of cases of illegal employment of foreigners, particularly within the construction and manufacturing sectors, leading to significant fines for employers.
