Silesia conducts Wind Strike 26 emergency response exercises
The Silesian Voivodeship has launched “Wind Strike 26,” a large-scale emergency management and civil defense exercise running from October 21 to 23. Approximately 1,400 personnel, including firefighters, medical rescuers, soldiers, police officers, and local government representatives, are participating in the drills.
The exercises focus on responding to severe weather phenomena, such as intense wind and heavy rainfall, which can cause flooding, infrastructure damage, and the need for mass evacuations. Scenarios include simulated storm damage at a dormitory, fallen trees, fires, and missing persons. To test real-world readiness, many of the 20 planned episodes are unannounced, forcing participants to react to rapidly changing information and dynamic situations.
Activities are being carried out across various districts, including Zawiercie, Częstochowa, Kłobuck, Lubliniec, and Myszków. The primary objectives are to evaluate inter-service cooperation, test equipment, improve communication flows, and refine coordination between different levels of administration and emergency responders.
