Silesian Region Rainwater Retention Grants Attract 1,000 Applications
The Silesian Voivodeship’s micro‑retention programme, administered by the Regional Fund for Environment and Water Management in Katowice, received 1,000 applications between 22 June and 27 July. Applicants seek subsidies covering up to 90 % of eligible costs, with a maximum of 8,000 zł per project, for rain‑water storage tanks and related installations. The total requested funding amounts to about 6.93 million zł, while the region has allocated a record 20.6 million zł for the scheme.
In the city of Siemianowice Śląskie, a parallel “Siemianowicka Kropelka” initiative launched on 10 July, offering households up to 10,000 zł in grants that cover up to 50 % of qualified expenses. Eligible measures include rain gardens, underground tanks of at least 4 m³, and other retention solutions. The programme aims to reduce runoff into municipal sewers, lower water bills, and provide an alternative water source for garden irrigation.
Both programmes reflect growing local interest in managing storm‑water amid increasing droughts and intense rain events in the region.
