Silfester Matutina legal execution remains pending after years

The Attorney General's Office of Indonesia has stated that the execution of Silfester Matutina, who was sentenced for defamation against former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, falls under the authority of the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office. Anang Supriatna, Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General's Office, noted that they will coordinate with the local prosecutors regarding the matter.

Silfester Matutina was recently removed from his position as an Independent Commissioner at PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim after serving only five days. The company stated the dismissal followed an evaluation by the parent company and was conducted through standard corporate mechanisms.

The delay in executing the 18-month prison sentence, which has been legally binding since 2019, has drawn criticism from the Indonesian Institute for Law Oversight, Guarding, and Enforcement (LP3HI). Kurniawan Adi Nugroho of LP3HI argued that the failure to carry out the sentence across multiple leadership changes at the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office suggests an institutional failure within the Prosecutor's Office rather than the fault of a single official.
