Siliana wildfires rekindle due to high winds

Strong winds exceeding 100 km/h caused several hotspots to rekindle on Sunday evening at Mount Boulmane in the Mazata area of the Siliana Governorate. The high wind speeds and rugged terrain have complicated firefighting efforts, with ash being carried as far as the borders of the Kairouan Governorate.

The fire, which originally broke out last Thursday, had been brought under control during the early hours of Sunday morning. However, the reappearance of flames necessitated the request for reinforcements from neighboring governorates, including additional trucks from forest services and Civil Protection units.

Emergency response efforts have included the deployment of two military aircraft to support ground teams. Significant logistical resources are currently mobilized, including specialized clearing equipment and multiple trucks from the regional forestry and Civil Protection directorates.
