Silicon Valley workers adopt custom Tudor watches as status symbols
Tech workers in Silicon Valley are increasingly using rare, customized Swiss watches from Tudor as a new symbol of professional identity. Rather than traditional corporate swag, these timepieces are often commissioned by employee-led collector groups who organize enough buyers to meet manufacturer minimums.
Recent social media activity has highlighted several exclusive models. Google employees have been seen with custom Tudor Pelagos models, while OpenAI staff possess a limited run of 400 watches, one of which features the engraving ‘Good Research Takes Time’. Palantir has also released a limited run of 468 watches featuring a subtle company logo, and Uber has produced a series of only 100 units.
Because these watches are produced in very small quantities and are typically only available to specific employee groups, they have become highly sought-after collector's items. Some customized models have fetched significant sums at auction, with certain Google-themed pieces selling for over $10,000.
