Silje Opseth to miss 2026-27 ski jumping season due to pregnancy
Norwegian ski jumper Silje Opseth will miss the 2026-27 competitive season due to pregnancy. The former world champion described the pregnancy as a ‘small miracle’ following a diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency earlier this spring.
Opseth announced via social media that she expects to give birth in May. While she will step away from competition for the upcoming season, she has expressed no intention of retiring. She remains motivated to return to the sport for the 2027-28 or 2028-29 seasons.
Jan-Erik Aalbu, head of ski jumping for the Norwegian Ski Federation, confirmed the news, stating that Opseth remains a vital resource for the national team. He noted that while her priorities are shifting, her experience and engagement will continue to benefit the group even while she is not competing.
