Silk Road International Film Festival opens with Egypt as guest of honor

The 13th Silk Road International Film Festival has commenced in Xi'an, China, organized by China Media Group and provincial governments. This year's edition marks a significant cultural milestone as Egypt has been selected as the first-ever guest of honor, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China.

A large Egyptian delegation, led by Cairo International Film Festival President Hussein Fahmy, is participating in the event. The program includes the launch of an ‘Egyptian Film Week’ to showcase the diversity of Egyptian cinema to Chinese audiences and includes screenings such as the film ‘Happy Birthday’ by director Sarah Gohar.

The festival, which runs until September 23, aims to foster cultural ties and industry cooperation between China and nations along the Silk Road. The event will conclude with the announcement of the ‘Golden Silk Road Awards’ for best film, director, and screenplay.
