Silk Road Mountain Race 2026 begins in Kyrgyzstan
The 2026 Silk Road Mountain Race has commenced in Talas, Kyrgyzstan. This year’s edition is noted as the longest and most demanding to date, covering over 2,000 km with more than 35,000 meters of climbing.
Approximately 229 participants are competing in the ultra-endurance event. Early race reports indicate a highly competitive field, with the seven fastest male riders separated by less than 30 km after the first 24 hours of racing. Returning winner Sofiane Sehili is among the competitors.
The race is characterized by extreme terrain, including high mountain passes that often require participants to hike while carrying their bicycles.
