Silmy Karim challenges suspect status in KPK corruption case

Former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, filed a pre-trial motion at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, September 21, 2026. His legal team is requesting that a judge annul his suspect status, detention, searches, and seizures conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The legal challenge pertains to allegations of corruption and extortion involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals. Silmy’s lawyer, Agus Sudjatmoko, argued in court that the two investigation orders (Sprindik) issued by the KPK, along with the subsequent suspect designation and detention orders, are legally invalid and lack binding legal force. The defense is seeking a court ruling to halt the ongoing investigation.
