Silq Road food truck brings Central Asian cuisine to Mountain View

Zhibek Zhusubalieva, a 23-year-old San Jose State student from Kyrgyzstan, has launched Silq Road, a food truck in Mountain View, California. The business aims to introduce Central Asian cuisine to the Bay Area, a region where such flavors are rarely found.

Operating out of a gas station in Mountain View, the food truck serves halal dishes including plov, shawarma, samsa, and cheburek. Zhusubalieva utilizes a tandoor, a traditional clay oven, to prepare her menu. To maintain authenticity, she sources specific ingredients such as rice from Uzbekistan and zigir oil.

The name Silq Road is a nod to the owner’s first name, which translates to ‘silk,’ and references the historical Silk Road trade routes. Zhusubalieva intends for the business to serve as a space for sharing food and traditions.
