Silvano d’Orba to host conference on Longobard history

The Circolo Culturale Silvanese “Ir Bàgiu” is hosting the final installment of its “Appuntamenti con il mondo antico” series in Silvano d’Orba. The conference, scheduled for September 4, focuses on the history of the Longobards.

Led by Edilio Riccardini and Simone Giovanni Lerma, the presentation will explore the Germanic population's migration from Scandinavia and their arrival in the Italian peninsula around 568 AD. The session will cover the Longobard conquest of the Po Valley, the establishment of their kingdom in Pavia, and their eventual cultural assimilation into the local Roman population through conversion to Catholicism.
