Silvano Loia, Rai Way manager, dies in drowning incident

Silvano Loia, a 52-year-old manager for Rai Way, died after drowning in the waters off the Lazio coast between Tarquinia and Montalto di Castro on Saturday, August 29. Loia, a lawyer by training, was known for his professional role in procurement and supplier relations at the broadcaster.

Authorities believe Loia may have suffered a sudden medical emergency while swimming. His body was recovered by the Coast Guard near Pescia Romana after a search involving helicopters and watercraft. While no external injuries were found, his sister has requested an autopsy to clarify the exact cause of death, expressing concern over the initial decision not to perform one.

Loia was the partner of Italian actress Francesca Neri. Neri described herself as ‘devastated by the pain’ following the sudden loss. The tragedy has drawn condolences from Rai leadership and the community of Sant’Angelo a Fasanella, his ancestral home.
