Silver prices drop 8 percent, impacting mining stocks
Silver prices have declined by approximately 8 percent within a single week, trading just below the 61 US dollar per ounce mark. This downward trend has triggered significant selling pressure on the stocks of major silver producers, including Pan American Silver, Hecla Mining, Coeur Mining, and First Majestic Silver.
Analysts at the precious metals firm Heraeus note that silver is approaching a critical technical test near the 60-dollar level. The disproportionate drop in mining stocks compared to the metal's price decline is attributed to operational leverage, where even small percentage changes in commodity prices can have an outsized impact on company profit margins.
