Silverstone MotoGP race sees high rider attrition
The MotoGP race at Silverstone saw a high rate of attrition, with only 16 of the 23 starting riders crossing the finish line. This represents the joint-second-lowest number of finishers in the current season, matching races in France, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
Riders identified several contributing factors for the high number of crashes. Pol Espargaro noted that track temperatures were higher than usual, leading to significant tyre degradation. He explained that the medium tyres provided less support than the soft tyres used previously, causing the front end to push and the rear to degrade.
Jack Miller of Pramac Yamaha also observed that the track felt “more slippery” on Sunday compared to earlier in the weekend. He noted that maintaining tyre condition is particularly difficult during the long Silverstone race, especially with the widespread use of medium-compound tyres.
