Silves hosts heritage events focused on monument conservation

The Municipality of Silves is hosting a series of cultural events from September 25 to 27 as part of its participation in the European Heritage Days 2026. The program focuses on the history, memory, and conservation of local monuments.

Activities include a lecture and guided tour of the Ponte Velha, a session regarding the Silves Cathedral and Bell Tower to discuss its Gothic architecture and recent restoration challenges, and a presentation on the Matriz Church of São Bartolomeu de Messines. The latter will address the geological formation of sandstone and its historical applications in the region's architecture.
