Silvia Intxaurrondo reflects on her roots in Santurtzi

Silvia Intxaurrondo, a prominent presenter for RTVE, has shared details regarding her upbringing and roots in the Basque Country. Although born in Barakaldo, she was raised in the coastal town of Santurtzi, a municipality of approximately 46,000 residents located near the Port of Bilbao.

Intxaurrondo described her childhood as being shaped by a humble, working-class family. She credited her character to her mother and grandmother, whom she described as revolutionary women, and her father, whom she noted as a feminist. She highlighted her academic journey, noting that she was the first woman in her family to attend university, having moved to Madrid at age 18 to study Arabic Philology.

The journalist, who won the Ondas Award for Best Presenter in 2023, continues to maintain a strong connection to her northern roots, often returning to the Santurtzi area to disconnect from her professional life in Madrid.
