Silvia Intxaurrondo wins legal battle against RTVE over salary
Journalist Silvia Intxaurrondo has won a legal dispute against the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE, securing her previous annual salary of approximately 254,000 euros. The ruling ensures she will maintain her high level of compensation while continuing her roles as presenter and director of the morning program ‘La Hora de La 1’.
The conflict arose following a Labor Inspection investigation into Intxaurrondo’s previous contracting model through her company, Sukun Comunicación. While the inspection led to her being integrated into RTVE as permanent staff, the broadcaster attempted to apply the standard collective bargaining agreement, which would have significantly reduced her annual income to roughly 140,814 euros.
The court ruled that Intxaurrondo should receive the salary corresponding to the collective agreement, with the difference required to reach her previous earnings provided through salary supplements. These supplements are strictly tied to her current responsibilities with ‘La Hora de La 1’ and will not be consolidated if she leaves those specific functions. The judge did, however, reject claims regarding the illegal transfer of workers and certain requests related to travel expenses.
