Silvia Salis details journey with assisted procreation in new book

Silvia Salis, the Mayor of Genoa, has shared her personal journey through medically assisted procreation in her new book, ‘È già domani’, published by Feltrinelli. In the book, Salis describes the emotional and physical challenges faced alongside her partner, Fausto Brizzi, following a year of unsuccessful natural attempts to conceive.

Salis reflects on the complexities of balancing professional career goals with biological timelines, noting that the experience forced her to confront the unpredictability of life. She describes the process of assisted fertilization as an emotionally vulnerable period marked by a sense of suspension between hope and caution.

As a symbolic gesture toward social change, Salis and Brizzi decided to give their son, Eugenio, who was born in 2023, Salis’s surname. The narrative also touches upon the broader context of fertility in Italy, where approximately 6% of children are conceived through medically assisted procreation.
