Silvina Luna death probe: medical board hearing postponed to Sept. 1

A medical board that was to examine the death of Argentine actress Silvina Luna was suspended and rescheduled for 10:00 a.m. on 1 September at the Morgue Judicial in Buenos Aires. The postponement was ordered by the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 60 and communicated by interim prosecutor Ángel Daniel Rendo. The interdisciplinary panel will assess whether ex‑surgeon Aníbal Lotocki’s cosmetic procedures caused the granulomas, hypercalcemia and subsequent acute renal failure that led to Luna’s death on 31 August 2023, and whether appropriate post‑operative monitoring was provided.

The investigation also revisits prior rulings: Judge Carlos Rengel Mirat sentenced Lotocki to four years in prison and five years of professional disqualification in February 2022 for repeated serious injuries to several patients, including Luna. In November 2023 the National Criminal Court of Appeals extended the prison term to eight years and increased the professional ban to ten years, adding a fraud conviction. The upcoming board will determine technical responsibility and may influence further legal actions.
