Silvio Orlando receives honorary degree from University of Bari

The University of Bari Aldo Moro has awarded actor Silvio Orlando an honorary degree in Performing Arts (Scienze dello Spettacolo). The recognition honors Orlando’s four-decade career spanning theater, cinema, and television, acknowledging his significant contribution to the Italian cultural landscape.

During the ceremony, Orlando delivered a keynote lecture titled ‘Metodo per diventare se stessi’ (Method for becoming oneself). He discussed the pursuit of authenticity, noting that it requires mental balance and the guidance of life's mentors. University Rector Roberto Bellotti described Orlando as a “maestro” with a profound and culturally rich career.

The event has also prompted academic debate regarding the role of universities and the criteria for conferring honorary degrees, specifically whether such recognitions expand the vision of knowledge or align more with media visibility.
