Sim Woo-seong calls for Chilgap Mountain tourism belt development

Chungnam Provincial Assembly member Sim Woo-seong has urged the development of a comprehensive tourism strategy to transform Chilgap Mountain into a new growth engine for Cheongyang. During a plenary session on November 5, Sim highlighted that while Cheongyang possesses excellent resources like Chilgap Mountain, Cheonjangho Suspension Bridge, and Janggoksa Temple, current development is limited to individual sites, hindering visitor stay times and local consumption.

Sim noted that the government's decision to construct the Jicheon Dam has increased local concerns regarding property rights and loss of livelihoods. He argued that since the dam is a project of national necessity, it must be accompanied by development strategies that provide long-term vitality rather than mere one-time compensation.

To address these issues, Sim proposed creating a “stay-type tourism belt” that connects existing resources with the future waterfront spaces of the Jicheon Dam. He requested that Chungnam Province include essential projects, such as sewage facility expansion and old pipe repairs, in the 2027 budget and pursue large-scale projects using national and provincial funds.
