Simal marigot serves as a sacred site for Serer spiritual rituals
The Simal marigot, located in the Fimela commune of the Fatick department, serves as a significant site for mystical, therapeutic, and protective rituals. For generations, the site has attracted a growing number of visitors, including political figures and religious leaders, who participate in rituals such as drawing water and performing sacred baths.
The site is deeply tied to the spiritual traditions of the Serer people. Geographically, the village of Simal is characterized by dense mangroves and a coastal landscape where houses sit closely alongside the beach. During the rainy season, frequent flooding causes the sea to rise, making the village appear as if it is built directly on the water.
