SIMAPAG repairs leak at La Soledad Dam in Guanajuato

The Municipal System of Drinking Water and Sewerage of Guanajuato (SIMAPAG) has successfully repaired a leak at the La Soledad Dam intake structure. The repair work, conducted with technical assistance from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), involved installing a specialized piece in a tunnel located 40 meters below the reservoir.

SIMAPAG director Juan Andrés Balderas Torres confirmed that the leak is fully contained and the hydraulic infrastructure has regained functionality. Officials stated that the water supply for Guanajuato is guaranteed, noting that La Soledad Dam accounts for only 10% of the city's annual water consumption. Other sources, such as deep wells and alternative dams, ensure uninterrupted service.

Regarding environmental impact, authorities reported that over 2,500 fish, including tilapia, carp, and bass, were rescued and relocated to the La Purísima Dam. SIMAPAG has notified the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) regarding the mitigation actions taken. The agency plans to restock the dam with aquatic fauna once water levels reach optimal capacity, aided by expected rainfall in September.
