Simav walnut producers face high costs despite bountiful harvest
Walnut producers in Küplüce village, located in the Simav district of Kütahya, are reporting a highly productive harvest season despite facing significant economic and logistical challenges.
Farmers expressed concern over sharply rising production costs. According to local producers, fertilizer costs have increased by 300%, pesticide costs by 200%, and fuel costs by 100%. These rising expenses, combined with uncertainty regarding market sale prices, are threatening the profitability of the harvest.
Additionally, recent rainfall has complicated the harvesting process, making it difficult to collect fallen walnuts and find adequate space to dry the crop. Producers are calling for increased government support to help offset these input costs and ensure they receive fair value for their labor.
