SIMI holds 127th National Congress in Rimini

The 127th National Congress of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI) is being held at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rimini from October 2 to 4. The event brings together a scientific community of over 5,000 members.

The symposium features 56 scientific sessions, the presentation of more than 700 abstracts, masterclasses, round tables, and workshops. Key themes include clinical and translational research, new therapies, digital health, healthcare organization, and the training of new specialists. SIMI President Prof. Nicola Montano noted that the primary challenge is addressing patient and citizen needs in a society facing aging populations and comorbidities, which impacts both clinical appropriateness and the sustainability of the national health system.

During the congress, Richard Horton, director of the medical journal The Lancet, received the SIMI International Award. Additionally, the event featured a narrative medicine contest in collaboration with Scuola Holden, which recognized three winning texts from 100 entries that recount doctors' experiences with patients. The society also introduced SIMICURA.it, a new portal dedicated to medical-scientific communication.
