Simiãozinho assumes interim mayoralty of São João Batista

Simiãozinho, the President of the Chamber of Councilors, has assumed the role of interim mayor of São João Batista. This transition follows a decision by the Regional Electoral Court of Maranhão (TRE-MA), which revoked the mandates of Mayor Mecinho and Vice-Mayor Willame Barros due to recognized abuse of political power and prohibited conduct during the 2024 elections.

Simiãozinho will lead the municipality until the Electoral Court organizes and conducts new elections to define a permanent administration. During his inauguration, he stated that his management would be guided by responsibility and honesty, noting that he does not intend to carry out mass dismissals of staff. The legal challenge regarding the revocation of the previous mandates is currently being appealed to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
