Simón Belilty Sets Record 94 on IFOM Exam for Costa Rica Internships

Simón Belilty Montvelisky, a 23‑year‑old medical student from Santa Ana, achieved the highest national score of 94 on the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) exam, a prerequisite for the internship program of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS). The result marks the best score in the history of the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (UCIMED).

UCIMED entered 115 of the 324 candidates nationwide, the largest representation among universities, and 113 of its students passed, yielding a 98.26 % approval rate—more than ten points above the national average. University officials, including Dean Pablo Vargas and Rector María del Carmen García, credited the achievement to the institution’s systematic preparation strategy and highlighted it as a milestone for the school.

The record underscores the effectiveness of UCIMED’s training program and sets a new benchmark for future medical students seeking the CCSS internship.
