Simón Bolívar International Airport resumes commercial flights in Venezuela

Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela, has resumed commercial flight operations following a two-month closure caused by devastating earthquakes in June. The seismic events resulted in over 6,500 deaths and left thousands missing, causing significant damage to the country's primary aviation hub.

While cargo flights resumed in early August, passenger services officially restarted this week. Due to damage to the main infrastructure, temporary departure and arrival terminals consisting of large tents have been installed.

Several airlines are reintegrating the airport into their networks. Conviasa has resumed flights to Mexico City, and Copa Airlines has restarted its service to Caracas. Additionally, American Airlines is resuming daily direct service between Miami and Caracas starting September 3, utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft to meet high passenger demand. Prior to the disaster, the airport handled approximately 112 daily flights.
