Simón Bolívar International Airport to reopen in Venezuela

Simón Bolívar International Airport, which serves Caracas, is scheduled to resume operations on September 1. The airport has been closed to commercial flights since June 24, following a devastating double earthquake that struck northern Venezuela.

The Instituto Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía (IAIM) announced that operations will officially begin using temporary terminal areas for both domestic and international flights. The facility, located in the state of La Guaira, sustained severe damage during the seismic events, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale.

The earthquakes resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis, leaving at least 6,509 people dead and thousands missing. While the airport has been used to receive humanitarian aid in the interim, the reopening marks a significant step in restoring commercial connectivity to the region.
