Simón Molina proposes specialized drug task force for schools and parks
Colombian Representative Simón Molina has announced a legislative proposal to create a Specialized Search Block to combat drug trafficking in schools, parks, and sports venues. The initiative aims to protect children, adolescents, and families from illicit substance distribution in these public spaces.
During a session in Medellín, Molina presented data indicating a significant rise in illegal armed groups. The number of members in these organizations increased from 15,120 to 28,802. Specific growth was noted in the Clan del Golfo, which rose from 4,075 to 10,268 members, and the Mordisco dissidents, which grew from 2,144 to 4,480 members. The ELN saw an increase from 5,851 to 7,123 members.
Territorial expansion has also been reported, with illegal actors' presence growing from 195 municipalities in 2019 to 643 in 2025. In the Antioquia region, the Clan del Golfo expanded its influence from 54 municipalities in 2022 to 94 in 2026. Molina also highlighted the impact of illegal economies, such as criminal mining and coca cultivation, particularly in the Bajo Cauca, North, and Northeast subregions of Antioquia.
