SIMODE project develops privacy-focused IoT system for building efficiency

The SIMODE project, a research initiative co-financed by the SMACT Competence Center, is developing an IoT-based system to improve building energy efficiency by monitoring occupancy density. Developed by NVnova at the TEC4I Research and Technology Transfer Center in Udine, the system uses optoelectronic sensors and Artificial Intelligence to track the movement, speed, and direction of people without using cameras or capturing images, thereby ensuring privacy.

By determining how spaces are utilized, the technology aims to optimize building systems and services to reduce operational costs and energy consumption. The project involves collaboration with Joanneum Research and the startup Fast Computing. Field tests for the system have already been implemented at the LEF in San Vito al Tagliamento for industrial applications and at SMACT in Padua.
