Simon Guobadia indicted on federal tax fraud charges
Nigerian businessman Simon Guobadia has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Georgia on two counts of allegedly aiding in the preparation and filing of false federal tax returns. The indictment follows allegations that Guobadia knowingly underreported his income and his company’s gross sales during 2021.
Prosecutors allege that in March 2021, Guobadia reported $0 in taxable income despite his company, Simcol Petroleum Limited, recording more than $45 million in gross sales. A second filing in July 2021 allegedly reported just $58,231 in taxable income while the company listed nearly $31 million in gross sales. Federal authorities contend that Guobadia was aware the reported figures were substantially lower than the actual amounts.
Guobadia, the ex-husband of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams, has denied the allegations, calling them “grossly exaggerated.” He stated that his background as a former tax accountant and CPA makes him confident that the Department of Justice has misinterpreted his company’s financial records and thin industry margins.
An arrest warrant has been issued, though it remains unclear if Guobadia has been taken into custody. The legal proceedings follow his 2025 deportation to Nigeria and a high-profile divorce from Williams.
