Simon Krečič wins Judita Award for conducting Don Carlo

Simon Krečič, the artistic director of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor Opera, has received the prestigious Judita Award for the best musical achievement at the 72nd Split Summer Festival.

The award recognizes his conducting of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera ‘Don Carlo’, a production by the Croatian National Theatre Split. The performance, held at the Peristyle in Split, was noted by the jury for its technical excellence and interpretative sovereignty. The jury highlighted Krečič’s ability to maintain clarity within a complex orchestral texture and achieve a seamless balance between the orchestra, the HNK Split Opera choir, and the soloists despite the acoustically challenging ancient setting.

The formal award ceremony, originally scheduled for August 14, was postponed due to large fires in the Omiš and Lokva Rogoznica areas. HNK Split announced that the awards will be presented at the beginning of the new theatrical season.
