London serial sex attacker Simon Levy convicted of double murder

Simon Levy, a 40‑year‑old resident of Tottenham, was found guilty at the Old Bailey of murdering two women and raping a third. He was convicted of murdering Carmenza Valencia‑Trujillo, 53, in March 2025 and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, in August 2025. He also faced two counts of rape, grievous bodily harm with intent and a non‑fatal strangulation of a third woman in January 2025.

The jury deliberated for 13 hours before delivering the verdict. Judge Mark Lucraft adjourned sentencing to 12 August, with a whole‑life term expected. The case highlighted a series of police and court failures: Levy was released on bail after earlier convictions, used a stolen Oyster card to travel on public transport, and was not promptly identified despite multiple assaults on the London Underground. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation into Metropolitan Police officers, issuing a gross misconduct notice to a constable and a misconduct notice to a detective sergeant.

The convictions bring an end to a seven‑year crime spree that began in 2018 and have prompted calls for reforms in how the Met handles repeat sexual offenders.
