Simona Halep receives honorary citizen title in Cluj-Napoca during retirement ceremony

Romanian tennis champion Simona Halep was honored with the title of honorary citizen of Cluj-Napoca at a ceremony held at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Mayor Emil Boc presented the award, noting that Halep has been a "great champion" who put Cluj on the world map and inspired generations of young people.

The event also marked Halep's official retirement from professional tennis after a 64‑week spell as world No. 1. Boc praised her alongside other Romanian sports legends present, calling her the "queen of tennis" and highlighting her contributions to the country's sporting heritage.
