Simonas Kairys selected as Kaunas mayoral candidate for Liberals

The Kaunas branch of the Liberal Movement has selected Member of Parliament Simonas Kairys as its candidate for Mayor of Kaunas. The decision was reached during a general meeting of the party's city branch.

Kairys, who previously won the Kaunas Centro-Žaliakalnis single-mandate constituency, proposed a platform focused on changing the city's management culture. His priorities include increasing transparency through artificial intelligence tools, strengthening education, involving youth in governance via participatory budgeting, accelerating renovation processes, and addressing transportation issues.

During the selection process, other initial candidates—including businessman Mindaugas Gyvis, former MP Marius Matijošaitis, former mayor Rimantas Mikaitis, and party branch chairman Sigitas Šliažas—withdrew their candidacies before the final vote. The party also worked to rank its list of candidates for the Kaunas City Municipal Council to prepare for the 2027 municipal elections.
