Simone Biles launches Lima 2027 Pan American Games countdown ceremony

U.S. gymnast Simone Biles and Colombian Paralympic sprinter Karen Palomeque will attend a ceremony on 6 August in Lima’s Plaza Mayor to light the official countdown clock for the 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games. The event will feature musical performances by the band Los Mirlos, culinary displays and sports demonstrations, and will be attended by officials including Panam Sports president Neven Ilic.

The Games are scheduled for 23 July–8 August 2027 in Peru, with more than 7,000 athletes from 41 nations expected to compete in 38 sports. The Parapan American Games will follow from 20–29 August with participants from 34 countries. Biles said she was “very excited to visit Peru for the first time” and looked forward to celebrating the start of the final year toward the continental event.
