Simone Johnson discusses leaving WWE and new role

Simone Johnson, known in WWE as Ava, has shared details regarding her departure from the company and her new career path. During an appearance on Cody Rhodes’ podcast, “What Do You Wanna Talk About?”, Johnson explained that her decision not to renew her contract in early 2024 was a long-term consideration that she had been contemplating for approximately one year.

Johnson stated that she felt she was no longer in a position within WWE that would allow for the professional growth she desired. She expressed gratitude for her time with the company, where she served as the youngest General Manager in NXT history, but noted a need to explore the broader entertainment industry.

Regarding her in-ring career, Johnson expressed hope that it is not over, noting that she misses wrestling but needs to resolve certain physical injuries first. She also reflected on the intense online criticism she faced during a 2024 storyline involving her father, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Cody Rhodes, noting it changed her perspective on the business.

Johnson has since transitioned to a junior executive role at Seven Bucks Productions, the company founded by her parents, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia. In this new capacity, she is learning the intricacies of film and television production, including script reading and attending production meetings.
