Simone Ramage sentencing delayed in air rifle killing

The sentencing of Simone Ramage, 41, has been deferred until October 7 at the Edinburgh High Court. Ramage was found responsible for the death of her partner, Brian Kowbel, after shooting him with an air rifle at their home in Galashiels in February 2023. Mr. Kowbel later died from his injuries at Borders General Hospital.

Following an examination of facts, Judge John Morris KC also determined that Ramage was in possession of an air rifle without a valid firearm certificate. The examination of facts was conducted after Judge Susan Craig previously deemed Ramage unfit to stand trial due to a mental disorder.

The sentencing delay was ordered by Judge Morris to allow for the completion of a criminal justice social work report to assist in determining the final disposal.
