Simplygreens Bonaire launches local microgreen production

Entrepreneur Ragnhild Isabella has launched Simplygreens Bonaire, a new local initiative dedicated to the cultivation and supply of fresh microgreens. The business aims to serve the island's hospitality sector, including hotels, restaurants, and caterers, by providing a high-quality, dependable alternative to imported specialty greens.

By focusing on local production, the company seeks to address challenges associated with food imports on Bonaire, such as high costs, long transportation times, and inconsistent availability. Isabella noted that increasing local food production helps keep money within the island's economy, supports local businesses, and fosters agricultural knowledge.

Beyond food security, the initiative aims to promote female entrepreneurship and increase women's participation in the agricultural sector. While facing obstacles common to small-island agriculture—including limited land access, financing, and technical requirements—Isabella intends to demonstrate the potential for a more resilient and sustainable local food system.
