Simran Sachdeva sentenced for $900K cellphone fraud in Abbotsford
Simran Sachdeva, 27, has been sentenced in Abbotsford provincial court following a fraud scheme that cost a cellular company approximately $891,000. Sachdeva received a conditional sentence of two years less a day, followed by two years of probation.
An investigation by the Abbotsford Police Department, which began in October 2023, revealed that Sachdeva and co-accused Hirday Malhotra, 27, exploited their positions as employees at a cellular store on Gladwin Road. Between June and October 2023, the pair created hundreds of fake cellular accounts and sold numerous unpaid phones for personal gain.
While Sachdeva pleaded guilty to one fraud charge, Malhotra faces two counts of fraud over $5,000. Police report that Malhotra is believed to have left the country, and an outstanding warrant remains for his arrest.
