Simu Liu and Timo Tjahjanto develop Sleeping Dogs film adaptation

Director Timo Tjahjanto and actor Simu Liu are working to adapt the Square Enix video game ‘Sleeping Dogs’ into a live-action feature film. The project aims to follow the story of Wei Shen, an undercover police officer who infiltrates the Triads.

Tjahjanto recently provided an update stating that the production is moving slowly to ensure the narrative remains faithful to the original game while adding necessary layers for a cinematic format. He noted, “We’re taking our time to make the best version of Sleeping Dogs the movie.”

Liu, who is a longtime fan of the 2012 title, has been instrumental in the project's development, helping to secure the production company Story Kitchen and completing a screenplay draft. While the film is in development, no official release date or full cast details have been announced.
