Sinach Wins Court Ruling, Retains Full Ownership of 'Way Maker
The Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed a N5 billion copyright lawsuit filed by music producer Michael Oluwole, who claimed co‑authorship and co‑ownership of the gospel hit “Way Maker.” Justice Ambrose Allagoa ruled that the plaintiff failed to prove any authorship, noting that the song had already been created and performed by Sinach, including an earlier performance in South Africa, before Oluwole was engaged in 2015 to mix and master the existing recording.
The judge described the claim as “gold‑digging and unmeritorious” and affirmed that copyright authorship belongs to the person who creates the original expressive content. Sinach’s legal team, led by Emeka Etiaba, SAN, thanked the court, and the ruling confirms Sinach as the sole owner of “Way Maker,” a song that has achieved international acclaim and significant YouTube viewership.
