Sinaia Gondola suspended due to pillar displacement
The Sinaia Gondola has been completely suspended following reports that a support pillar moved outside of safety parameters. Measurements taken on the foundation and body of pillar 2, located on the first section (Cota 1000–1400), indicated significant and progressive movement in a north-northeast direction.
Sinaia Mayor Vlad Oprea stated that the displacement was caused by landslides triggered by a nearby hotel construction project. The excavations required for the hotel allegedly led to ground instability, which in turn altered the position of the pillar, the roller batteries, and the cable. Consequently, the bending angle of the GD8 Sinaia Gondola's carrier-tractor cable is no longer within safe limits.
In response, the Sinaia City Hall and Transport Urban Sinaia SRL have requested additional cable alignment measurements and ordered an immediate halt to the construction works at the adjacent hotel site. Local authorities have notified the State Inspectorate in Construction and the Prahova County Prefect's Institution to address the emergency.
