Sinaia implements year-round tourism strategy with new mountain coaster

The Romanian mountain resort of Sinaia is being highlighted by international industry publication Snow Sports News as a model for transforming seasonal ski destinations into year-round tourist attractions. This strategic shift aims to reduce dependence on the winter season and mitigate the impact of increasingly unpredictable winter weather.

A central component of this strategy is the new Sunkid Mountain Coaster, which opened on December 1, 2025. Operated by Transport Urban Sinaia S.R.L., the facility is the longest summer toboggan run in Romania, featuring a track length of 2,157 meters, a vertical drop of 438 meters, and 38 turns.

The attraction utilizes 65 sleds and an automated storage system at the upper station to ensure efficient operations and weather protection. Sleds are transported to the starting point via the existing gondola lift using specialized transport carts.
