Sinaloa Cartel Power Shift as 'El Chapo Isidro' Gains Influence

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials warned that they are moving against drug cartels and corrupt officials operating in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The warning follows a massive seizure of 25,000 liters of liquid methamphetamine at a property in Los Mochis, the largest such confiscation of the current administration and the second‑largest in Mexico’s history.

The seizure was linked to Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, known as “El Chapo Isidro,” the leader of the Guasave faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Analysts say his group, allied with the Los Mayos faction, is poised to become the dominant force in the state, challenging the Los Chapitos faction and potentially eclipsing rival groups such as the CJNG. U.S. authorities have offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his capture, alleging his involvement in the distribution of cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana.

The emerging power struggle could reshape control of drug trafficking routes in Sinaloa and influence future negotiations between Mexican cartel leaders and U.S. law‑enforcement agencies.
